Hi, i'm having problems updating my Intel 82865G Graphics Controller to a
better version. This is hopefully to make it support version 1.1 pixel
shaders. However, when i download the updates via the Intel website, when i
extract the files and use the 'Setup', i get to the user licence agreement,
agree, and then get the error:

"This driver cannot be installed on this computer. Please contact the
computer's manufacturer for further information. Setup will exit."

Can anyone direct me as to how i can update my grahpics card as i really
don't know how now.

You are trying to update the graphics drivers I assume. Where did you get
the driver files from that you have already tried.

Try here http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel865g/ and select "Get
final graphics driver". On the next screen select your operating system and
download the EXE file. Then run it from the location you saved it in. Do you
get the same error message.??

That's all fine and dandy, but i really would have no idea where to start
with buying graphics cards, how to find what i need from them, how to install
them etc.

Thank you for the help neil, but i have already tried that, and the error
message is still the same. I also tried downloading an earlier version to no
avail. The same error message. It is not particularly a full update that i
want, just one that includes Pixel Shader version 1.1 or higher. I have
however heard to the contrary that Pixel Shaders cannot be downloaded and
must be bought in a new video card. I have also heard contrary statements,
that it can be downloaded. Any help please?

Decide on a top limit for price.. go to a decent store and see what they
have on offer that will fit your machine.. AGP slot, I would imagine, but
check with documentation or the manufacturer website..

If you are not up to the task of fitting and installing software, ask the
guy in the store if he can do it..
