Hi Steve,
Very nice http://www.95isalive.com/reflections/age.htm web page.

I can do the same thing of .htm file web page in FP but I used a FREE web
storage. And I also used SmartFTP Program to managed my web site.

These are my question & problem:
1. Is the web page hosted in a paid web server? Can it be possible to author
in a FREE web storage and having the same convenient of opening the file
and safety?
2. Because my SmartFTP Program always wrote my User Name & Password
in the unique URL created like the one below. It exposed my Login info!
3. My unique URL start with ftp:
ftp://username:p[email protected]/web/happytime.htm
Do you know a way to hide my password?
4. My friends can actually open it but I don't want them to know my Login info.
5. Is there an HTTP Program that I can use for my free web server that create
a unique URL similar to yours in the post? Any links for my fast information?
I don't know why my web server told me to used a FTP Program and not a
HTTP one?

Many Thanks In Advance,
Rino

Only works in IE.
The trick is to make an image of the background
and then use it as a background image,
repeating if necessary.
A small image is better, either a long narrow
one or a wide narrow one depending upon the
background effect you want.
Here's an example:

As the URL you indicated is only to be used for uploading web content to
your web site, not for the general public to view your site in their
browser. So you would just give folks a URL similar to the following for
your web site:

http://www.yourdomainname.com

If you are not sure of the correct URL to view you site from a browser, then
you need to check with your web host.

No, I wouldn't allow my friends to open my web site. And Yes, they can ONLY

No, I could easily Up & DownLoading files. And Yes, it could be for general
public ONLY if I Email my unique URL to them because they must know
which folders and go down to several sub-directories and know my file name.
But with my unique URL --- they just click it. My URL as created in SmartFTP
is 100% sure fired. My only problem is how I could hide my password in all
URL created. My URL look like this: ftp://username:p[email protected]/web/images/happytime.htm

My server support techs said my friends could click and open my files and
without my password in my URL BUT 2 weeks have already passed and
they still scratching their heads. We've tested several URL combinations and
nothing that works.

We already tried many URL's combination and nothing works.

If this requires a login, then you need to contact your host for the correct

why I'm trying to seek a 2nd opinions or maybe a solution.

If you like, you can email me the actual URL you are trying to use, not the

I know there is nothing wrong with all my URL ---- it's worked 100% all the
time and tested in 5 separate computer with only IE browser. My only
problem (I started many time already) how I can hide my own password in
all my URL I've created in SmartFTP Program? I know this is not new
discovery and maybe some guys did already soved it. If I deleted my
password it wouldn't work and it must have my Username also. If I send

You are saying the as far as accessing your web site via browser, there is
no problems, but you have issue with using the SmartFTP application which
requires your login and password to be included as part of the URL, correct?

What are you using this FTP application for, if you are using it to just
upload your content, then that seem to be based on the requirement your web
host has set up for FTP connection to their server.

Have you considered using another FTP application or FP to upload or
contacting the authors of the SmartFTP application?

My pleasure.

If you really want to get your own site going, there
are some really reasonable hosting services out there.

The one I use is www.123ehost.com but as I said there are many.

To make your web site "work" you really need to register a domain name.

An example of a domain name is 95isalive.com

If when you decide to establish a domain name, I strongly urge you
to register it with the same company that is going to host your site,
because if you don't you will have to Transfer the domain which involves
another registration fee.

To determine if a domain name that you want to register is available,
go to this page at AnalogX:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/whois.htm

And download, install and run WhoIs. It will tell you if a name is available.

Hi Thomas,
I loved your style and it's very easy for me reply.
1. Yes, you're 100% correct!
2. Yes, you really strike the nail in the head.
3. Yes, I did tried several and only SmartFTP Program can gives me
the unique URL whenever I choose or select a file from my website
folders and it create a unique URL in Windows Clipboard. I open OE
and paste my unique URL in body of message and send to friends.
All my friends easily click and view it in their IE browser automatically.

Here's one email reply: "I know that the answer to your question
depends on your ISP configuration. You should contact the web host
company you used and they should be able to cope with helping you."

I makes contact with my host server tech support and it seem they
don't know as 2 weeks already passed with calls & Email never stop
sending daily, the worst things --- they only works Monday to Friday.

That's why I'm here looking for a better solution if it is possible and if
someone has already gone to this frontier. I did also help some
people before in other MS News Group with my easy to follow
instruction and I also asked lots of topics which is new to me and
I always posts my final resolution of each new found tricks & kinks
and tell my complete step by steps of correcting the problem in an
easy to follow 1,2,3, instructions so others may also be benefited.
I've also saved many good posts for my future need.

I always make a good habits of saying Thanks to who ever answer
my posts for help and most of the time it's only a hints. And we the
one who posts must do everything and even a little hint is always a
BIG help.

Regards & Many Thanks For Helping Me Up To The End,
Rino

Hi Thomas,
I loved your style and it's very easy for me reply.

And we the
one who posts must do everything and even a little hint is always a
BIG help.

Regards & Many Thanks For Helping Me Up To The End,
Rino

Rino,

1. You are saying the as far as accessing your web site via browser, there
is
no problems, but you have issue with using the SmartFTP application which
requires your login and password to be included as part of the URL, correct?

2. What are you using this FTP application for, if you are using it to just
upload your content, then that seem to be based on the requirement your web
host has set up for FTP connection to their server.

3. Have you considered using another FTP application or FP to upload or
contacting the authors of the SmartFTP application?

Hi Steve,
Thank You Very Much! I really appreciate your kind help and will saved all
your value information for my future need if I'm not completely satisfy with
my FREE web storage.

Good news! My host server tech support finally sent me a good working
website using a http: to open it and they told me not to use ftp --- oh boy!
Now I can manage my website, Personal Profile (change password) and
Email account. My back-bone provider is Cobalt.net.com server and my
DSL provider is Apexworld.net. Could be the Cobalt people help them
solved this case.

Thanks Again & All The Best,
Rino

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your patience and explaining things which make me more

Thanks, it started as an experiment and I just left it up there.

answers in-line

Hi Steve,
Very nice http://www.95isalive.com/reflections/age.htm web page.

I can do the same thing of .htm file web page in FP but I used a FREE web
storage. And I also used SmartFTP Program to managed my web site.

These are my question & problem:
1. Is the web page hosted in a paid web server? Can it be possible to author
in a FREE web storage and having the same convenient of opening the file
and safety?

Yes it's hosted on a paid server, and the domain name is registered.
A registered domain which has propogated throughtout the domain name
servers is what allows you to click the link to open the site.
The site costs me $50 per year and $10 per year for the domain registration.
New accounts have an additional $25 1 time set up fee.

2. Because my SmartFTP Program always wrote my User Name & Password
in the unique URL created like the one below. It exposed my Login info!
3. My unique URL start with ftp:
ftp://username:p[email protected]/web/happytime.htm
Do you know a way to hide my password?

I would think that this is a matter of how your account is set up
with the host. i'm not familiar with freeserve or how they set up their
accounts.

4. My friends can actually open it but I don't want them to know my Login
info.
5. Is there an HTTP Program that I can use for my free web server that create
a unique URL similar to yours in the post? Any links for my fast
information? I don't know why my web server told me to used a FTP
Program and not a HTTP one?

Not to my knowledge. In order to publish via http:// using FrontPage your
site needs to be hosted on a server that has the FrontPage extensions installed.

Many Thanks In Advance,
Rino

Only works in IE.
The trick is to make an image of the background
and then use it as a background image,
repeating if necessary.
A small image is better, either a long narrow
one or a wide narrow one depending upon the
background effect you want.
Here's an example:

used on this page:

Hi Tom,
Now you'll know that my BIG patience is pay-off or as they says: "He that
can have patience can have what he will."

Yes & appreciate how you all feel for me and to tell you the truth I really
mad & very upset and I'm started looking for a new DSL provider but
almost all of them used their own Browser and using those ugly DSL
filters for every analog devices I have --- which makes my home look
uglier. Some DSL provider have no service to my 95111 area. By the
way, $300 fine for early termination! I better stayed & enjoy my new
website which I already missed for nearly a year!

Thank You for your concern and wish me luck on my new venture,
Rino

Sounds like your host doesn't offer the support you need. If you are unable
to communicate with them, I strongly recommend changing hosts. My good
friend Tom Rowe would agree, I'm sure.
