GPU shutting down PC?

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro. When the weather is hot and the video card is put
under load (gaming), the PC shuts down. I am pretty sure it is not the CPU
because MBM is showing that it doesn't go past 70C (and I've seen the CPU go
up to 80C on the desktop). Yet my video card does not have a temperature
sensor so I don't know if it is possible for this to happen because of the
GPU. When it shuts down like this, the PC speaker emits a siren and the
system cannot be powered on again until it is disconnected from the power.

What CPU are you using? I have an Athlon 64 4000+ which doesn't get about 40
deg C even under load. 70C is pretty hot and perhaps not far off what yout
motherboard thinks is a safe temp. You may find that your motherboard BIOS
has a max shutdown temp that you can adjust. Give us some info like CPU,
Motherboard and HSF cooler and it will give us a better chance of helping
you.

I agree...I only have an A64 3400+ but my CPU never gets that hot.
Only goes to about 50C but my 9800XT can go past 80C easy (but this is
not a prob for the XT...I'm not sure about the pro) I would have to
say it sounds more like your CPU...but I'm no expert....

However unless there is a big airflow problem in your case. If your
CPU is getting that hot then it is possible that your GPU is going far
beyond that... Do you have chasis fans?

Maybe the power supply itself is overheating and shutting down?
