Hi
I downloaded the new gpmc with service pack1 from microsoft. I
followed the instructions om prerequsites and installed .Net
Framework. When starting the installation i hoped to be prompted that
setup would install an hotfix to change my gpedit.dll to the latter
version.
But NO, it said to go to www.microsoft.com/downloads and get the
hotfix along with MSXML4 SP2.

But on microsoft there is no way to get a hold on the hotfix.
Why does´nt the gpmc install contain the hotfix as noted?????

I have searched everywhere on microsoft, and had it!

What is GPMC?
What hotfix are you referring to?

Rick,

I am pretty sure they mean this:

Group Policy Management Console
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkId=14320

Group Policy Management Console with Service Pack 1
http://snipurl.com/8s8i

Assuming they have Windows XP or Windows 2003 they are installing this on.
Actually - reading a bit more into what they have stated, I think they have
Windows XP SP1 - not SP2. Hopefully this is Windows XP Professional as
well, as it definitely would be worthless in Home. Anyway - if you read the
second page above, it has this:

"When installing the GPMC on Windows XP Professional with SP1, GPMC Setup
prompts you to install Windows XP QFE Q326469 if it is not already present.
This QFE updates your version of gpedit.dll to version 5.1.2600.1186, which
is required by GPMC. This QFE will be made available in Windows XP Service
Pack 2."

Which is what makes me think they have Windows XP Professional with SP1 and
may want to consider installing SP2. However, not having enough
information, really - I am just guesing.

Thanks, Shenan, I thought of GP management right after I sent it. They may
have to install SP2, as the only way to get the hotfix is to contact
Microsoft Product Support directly. Thanks to you, I now suspect this is the
actual problem: The poster doesn't want to have to call for the hotfix, even
though it's free.

The necessary hotfix was installed automatically by the GPMC
installation when I installed it. Perhaps your download was
corrupted? You might want to try another download.

Hi all, and thanks for your interest.
I solved the problem by reading the install notes, as usual :-).

The GPMC has to be the same language as the operating system for it to
work with the hotfix included in GPMC.

I tried to install GPMC (english) on Swedish WinXP SP1. For that to
work i had to have a swedish copy of the gpedit.dll

Thanks anyway
