gpedit.msc - No Control Panel?

P

Paul Turnbull

Hi,

I'd like to remove some items from my control panel without interfering with
cpl files, but the control panel is not listed in the gpedit utility - only
Windows Media Player is visible. I'm looking under Administrative Templates

OS is XP Pro SP1.

Any suggestions?

Paul

Or those who have XP Home (Does not have the gpedit utility).
Tweak UI for Windows XP {Guide}

[Control Panel
This allows to hide/unhide the icons that appear in "Control Panel". Hiding the extension does not
uninstall it and it can be executed by running that command at the command line.]

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
Tweak UI

Thanks, I'll take a look.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Control Panel page allows you to uncheck items you do not want to
see in the CP.
