GP not applied to XP SP2 Clients

Hi all,

I'm having a problem on the network im running, as kids use our centre
everyday you can only imagine what they are like when they egt some
free reign on a computer.

The network is on server 2000 and running 2000 (SP4) & XP (SP2), the
problem is that group policy will not apply to the XP Clients.

I have disabled the Firewall in SP2 and tried a few other things but i
am hitting a brick wall all of the time.

Does anybody have any ideas as to why GP may not be applied to the XP
clients but will apply to the 2000 clients?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Are the kids using local accounts or domain accounts to login? Group
policy only works when logging into the domain.

Sorry should have said, yes they are logging into the domain.

As i said it works fine on the 2000 clients, but for some reason,
doesn't on the XP clients.

Totally bafaling me.

Thanks,

Chris

Are the users in the same Organizational Unit and how about the computers??
Are the Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers using exactly the same DNS
servers as shown in ipconfig /all and not any ISP DNS servers? From the XP
Pro computers can you ping the domain controllers by name and IP address and
vice versa. Are any computers using wireless network adapters? Is anything
shown in the application log [use Event Viewer] of the XP Pro computers
indicating that there is a problem with Group Policy such as userenv
warning/errors Event IDs? Try running the support tool gpresult on a couple
of XP Pro computers to see when the last time Group Policy was applied and
from what domain controller and also run the support tool netdiag to see if
any problems are reported for dc discovery, DNS, kerberos, or trust/secure
channel. Support tools are on the install disk for the operating system in
the support/tools folder where they need to be installed as a set and run
from that folder they install to or modify your path statement to reflect
that folder. Can you give an example of what Group Policy setting is not
being applied? If you have not done so yet try logging onto a XP domain
computer with the same domain user account that Group Policy user
configurations seems to work fine for on a Windows 2000 computer to see what
happens. The first link below may also be of interest but I would try to
rule out other issues first. --- Steve
