goto mystery....

Tom Gahagan

Hello......

On my site I have a section of one page that the text gets changed every
day. On this particular page I do it by hand by pasting in some text that I
get from a daily email into the site. It has always worked fine.

Today one of the words in the text is.... flowers ...... I noticed that
when I saved the page and looked at it on the web the word .... flowers
..... was underlined and when you put a cursor on it it showed.... goto
flowers in the status bar. Having NOT put a bookmark on this phrase I
thought it might have sneaked through in the cut and paste so I typed the
text in myself..... same result. As a matter of fact if you put that word
anywhere on the page it thinks it is a bookmark.

So next I went into the bookmark dialog and there are NO bookmarks or goto's
set up for that phrase. In fact I have never used any bookmarks on the page
at all. If you change the word to flower it goes away.

Anyway...... so what is up with the mystery (unwanted) bookmark????

Using FP 2000

Thanks
Tom Gahagan

Can you post a URL?

Kind of sounds like a Browser Helper Object browser hijack.

Hi Steve....

Since I could not solve the problem I changed the wording from flowers to
flower and the problem went away. So I don't know if this will help you but

www.ethomaston.com

Click on the Keeping the faith menu choice

the offending page is faith.htm

Kind of sounds like a Browser Helper Object browser hijack.

For my own knowledge.... what is the above you've described????

Thanks

Won't do any good to look unless it's flowers.

Besides, what I was thinking about would only
show in preview in browser, and then would
act like a hyperlink.

It looks like you removed all the offending "flowers." It would help if you
put one up somewhere that it shows up on your machine, and we could tell you
if it shows up on ours. That would tell if it is indeed a browser helper
object on your local machine.

Tom,

Add the following to the head section of your page and see if it helps:

Hi Kevin and Steve.....

If put the flowers reference back.... on this page ( I've not tried it on
other pages )

http://www.ethomaston.com/faith.htm

or go to www.ethomaston.com
and click on the Keeping the Faith Menu choice.

The word flowers is on the top left in the section called Daily
Bread........

and the goto link under to word is once again there.

Thanks for your help in looking into this.....

Well that is what I am seeing it on.... xp pro and ie6

It is not showing up in FP design or in the html view.......

I will try the meta tag and see if that does the trick.....

Hi Tom,

There is definitely no link there. I would guess that you have some sort of
browser helper that is doing it. Have you installed any such software?

I've not knowingly installed any browser helper.

So will a standard virus scan.... or addware type scan detect anything
installed without my knowledge? I guess I am asking... how can I find out???
:)

Thanks

Hi Steve....

I ran Ad-Ware version 6.01 but the problem still persists. I will give
these you have suggested a try. Thanks.......

Hey Steve.....(and all)

Those programs found stuff (several things in fACT) that Ad ware did not and
solved the problem.

Thanks to all for sticking with this and helping. You guys are the best!

Glad to help.

You might want to also "Reset Web Settings"
IE > Tools > Options > Programs Tab.
Uncheck "reset my homepage" in the pop up.
Then close and reopen IE
