If you don't have SATA on your computer, you might try exchanging it where
it was bought for a PATA drive. Obviously still new if you can't connect it,
right?

Otherwise you need a PCI SATA card, SATA data cable and a SATA power cable-
which would connect to a normal drive power plug.

it was purchased via the net which seem like more hassle than its worth
to exchange. aside from that having read up a little on the increased
transfer rate i see no point in not adding an SATA card. i basically am
just looking for advise on which products in this area are cost
effective and considered reliable.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Who is your favorite online vendor? Pick a site you're
comfortable with, odds are they have a few for $20. There's
no point getting a high-end controller for one or two drives
in a PC, just pick one with Silicone Image chipset and the
make does not matter, get the newest drivers from Silicon
Image website. Cables- whatever is cheapest, at same
vendor... basic parts like these, brand matters not.

I used to see a few vendors on ebay selling zillions of them for
months and months. They were cheap too based on silicon image chips.
Sometimes Ebay has some deals though for me its few and far between
and with all the horror stories theres the risk too.

2 Xmases ago I wanted a Barton 2500 cpu and saw this guy who claimed
to have been in business for 6 years selling PC parts. He had lots of
parts for sale a bit lower than everyone else about 10-15 %. I wanted
a barton he had several for sale on ebay. I was distracted for two
weeks and looked again and to my relief Ebay had pulled him from the
site because they claimed they had tons of complaints of non delivery
so it turned out to be a scam though he had tons of feedbacks and
sales on ebay going back for 2 months.
