One day I couldn't pull up google.com, altavista.com, or
lycos.com. In fact the only search engines I can access
are Yahoo.com, and Netscape.net.

All other areas of the Web are accessable. Just not
google.com, my search engine of choice. I always get
the 'page not found' message.

Please help.

Hi.

Answer to your question.

You have to delete all the host files from your computer.

Here are the steps for same:

1) From the Start menu on your computer, click Search. (In
some versions of Windows®, you must click Find.)

2) Select All files and folders. (Some versions of Windows
list this option as Files or Folders.)

3) Type "hosts" (without quotation marks) in the file name
box and click Search. (Some versions of Windows list this
as Find Now.)

4) Once you locate the "hosts" file within your Windows or
WINNT directory, right click the file and click Delete

Note :-- Please delete all the host files also lmhost
file , if you r unable to delete lmhost files please close
all internet explorer browser then try to delete host
files.

You have been hit by the Qhosts trojan. You have not been keeping your
operating system up to date and need to get the latest updates.

Read this for the removal tool and more information:

Run this: QHOSTS Trojan Cleanup Tool
http://software.brown.edu/dist/w-cleanqhosts.html
Read this information:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.qhosts.html
(System Restore does *not* need to be disabled).

Run Windows Update: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
Update your preinstalled anti-virus application.
