Google not working at all for IE on one computer

Hello,
I am actually using IE 7, but didn't see a news group for it. The
behavior I am seeing is strange. I have one computer with IE 7 where
Google works fine, but another where it doesn't work at all. It
doesn't matter where I use it from:
- The Google toolbar
- If I go to the Google website
- The field next to the address on IE
If I type something into any of these and try to do a search, it goes
immediately to a page that says "The page cannot be displayed".
There's no pause at all. But I can use google from Firefox on the
same computer with no problem.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance,
John

Hi John,
There was an old google hijack that created an entry in the hosts file.

First up check the machine for malware and then check the hosts file for and
entry for google.com.

Google have cyber-squated synonyms. try http://www.gooogle.com. If this
works then it indicates that the hosts file has been hijacked.

Hello,

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Internet Explorer 7 (No Add-ons) to start without any add-ons. Try using the
browser and see if problems arise.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE7, go to Tools > Manage Add-ons
and disable all the add-ons and enable them one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

Also check that IE7 is not using any proxy in Internet Options > Connections
LAN Settings

It turns out that it is a problem with going through the proxy server
that my organization uses. It works fine if I don't use the proxy
with IE. that's strange since I don't have the problems with any other
site....just google results. Any way, thanks for the advice.
