Google Groups setting?

I have a computer that is no longer marking my "read" posts in Google
Groups and I cannot find the setting to change it back. Post text
used to change color from blue to burgundy when read but now they
remain blue.

I'm using -XP & OE.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That depends. How are you accessing Usenet? What program are you using
as a reader? Are you using Google Groups to read the groups (a very bad
idea) or are you using Thunderbird? Outlook Express? etc.

From your headers, it looks like you're using Firefox which would imply
that you're accessing Usenet through "Google Groups". Google would like
you to believe that they run Usenet, but that's not really the
situation. Google Groups is just an internet layer over Usenet, which
can be accessed independently of Google's crap via a legitimate news
reader program like those listed here:

I knew I'd catch a lot of flak about GG but thought it was worth a try
anyway. I have been using GG exclusively as a reader for the past 7
years and have not run into any "very bad idea" problems other than
the spam crap which is easy to ignore. I'm not defending GG, I'm just
saying it works for me. YMMV.

As stated in my original post, the computer that has the "problem"
accesses GG via OE.

That does not make sense.  Google Groups is a web interface to usenet
groups.  OE (Outlook Express) is *not* a web browser, and would not be
capable of presenting the Google Groups interface.

Now, if you have a usenet provider, you could possibly be viewing usenet
groups with OE, and *also* viewing those groups with Google Groups in a
web browser.

Can you clarify what you're doing?

You're right. My bad. I meant IE instead of OE. That's what
happens when ya get old.

Assuming (having read the other thread) that its Outlook Express we are
talking about and not Google Groups ... I use Windows Mail which is mostly
identical to Outlook Express, there is a setting (Tools > Options > Read)
called (in WM this is) "Mark messages read after dispalying for NN seconds".
I'd guess that the value there has been set very high. Change it back down
to 5 seconds.

Hope that's it.
