It is quite an impressive piece of software. For those in the US,
simply enter a Zip Code in the Search window and click "Search"; you
will be taken to that location, as if by helicopter (!!) It will
probably take several seconds to minutes before the new image "sets
up", but it's worth the wait. Click-hold-and-drag the image to move
left and right, etc.

The same works with UK postcodes.

That may be, but I and many people in this group don't use Windows XP or
have fancy new systems, and thus are left out in the cold.

well, it runs happily on a three year old laptop under win2k.
(although I am aware that computers exist in this galaxy older than
three years ;)
Actually the limiting factor for me is the network speed. The line is
faster than the requirement, but the servers appear to be slow in
responding.

best regards

Yup;

My platform: Intel P4 w/1Gb RAM, ATI 9100 IGP, Win2k SP$. I could load
WW successfully but when launching any of the map options, the system
would lock up harder than a nunnery during Mardi Gras.

Btw, earth.google downloads are temporarily down as of this writing:

I have windows 2000 sp4 on a 6 year old 500MHz compaq desktop series EN with 512
MB ram.
I could not install Google Earth with directX - installer refused - said
something about bying a newer graphics card, but could instal and work with
openGL mode.

There is the website:

maps.google.com

type a location and then click the satellite button.

PS I was disappointed too as I still run Windows 98SE at home.

Have you considered why the might be?
Yup...yet another example of US arrogance. Still, the arabs are doing a
good job of showing you that you can't have it all your own way.

Hm hm. I thought it was just my setup (XP, ThinkPad 1.8, ATI Mobility
Radeon 7500, 512 Meg RAM).

Pretty impressive all the same.

Already did. You'll notice that we didn't have the trouble you did.
Also it was the British Army that was requested to show the US how to
do it as well.

Yup...yet another example of US arrogance.
You have confused vision of a product followed by research and
successful development of that product with arrogance.
Still, the arabs are doing a good job of showing you that you can't have it all your own way.
If you think so, maybe you should go join them.

Thanks, but I'm already aware of the website. In fact, that's the main
reason I uninstalled World Wind and dotnet from my system!
