Unfortunately, I got so excited that I didn't finish reading Microsoft's
page. But to get the old NTBackup running on Vista, you can follow the
instructions on this page:

http://www.petri.co.il/installing_windows_xp_ntbackup_on_windows_vista.htm

Vista is rumored to have 50 million lies of code and the Boys of
Redmond didn't have room to include a useful backup utility, that can
selectively do backups so now we're suppose to install some lame NT
version?

Thanks, but no thanks, I'll stick with Bounce Back.

Thanks, but I'll stick with a FOSS* solution (FreeBSD, Linux, or some
other product that has proven it's usefulness and reliability).

Am I missing something here? What's wrong with the Vista backup - works fine
for me - excellent

If only the Win 98 version of backup was available, that had better job
definition and for folk who knew what and where their important data
were became almost a single click operation.

For many users, Vista's backup is sufficient. However, if you're in a
business environment with line-of-business applications that might put their
data anywhere and with data that must be protected with detailed backup
policies, Vista's backup is totally inadequate.

The old NTBackup (or 3.1 or 95 or 2000 or XP -- they were all basically the
same), had the flexibility to meet most such requirements. But Microsoft
decided that they wanted to make administrators' lives more difficult.

Yup! And Vista could have offered a preconfigured job for average users to
schedule backups. Instead, they reinvented the wheel -- and made it a
triangle.
