good general web book?

I know this is going to probably sound a bit silly but I'm looking for a
good book (or 2 or 3 if one won't cover it) that goes over basics of HTML,
XML, CSS, Java, ASP, .net, Ajax, PHP, web servers, etc.

I've spent the last 10 years mostly working in the win32 db area (Access,
FoxPro, VB, Delphi, SQL, etc.) and have very little understanding of web
development whether it be creating static pages or database web apps. I need
to get a good understanding of these other technologies. I'm not interested
in becoming an expert on all the nitty gritty of everything. But I need to
reeducate myself a bit so I can move over into the areas that are where the
work is. Once I get the basics down, I can figure out where to go from
there. The problem is that most of the books I find at the book store or on
Amazon are very specific to one or 2 topics. Either that or they are very
very general and not at all technical. I need a mix of both. I'm a
programmer, so I need it in technical terms, not something that my 10 year
old neice could read. But a expert Wrox book on .net 2.0 is way beyond me
right now because it assumes I know the basics. I never would have made it
through calculus if I hadn't had algebra and trig. Same thing here.

Hopefully someone can recommend some books to me. It'd be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

Deitel & Deitel [1] publish compendiums --and-- outstanding textbooks but
they are more costly than the WalMart variety most publishers sell. Go to
their website and pick a few titles and have Barnes & Noble bring them into
a store for review.

Keith,

I found the Microsoft Books provided for the MCAD/MCSD to be very
useful. If you do not want to buy the complete set, you can get the
web only book (http://www.amazon.com/MCAD-MCSD-Self-Paced-Training-Kit/
dp/0735619271/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1202818270&sr=1-4).
These books are pre-.Net 2.0 and written for VS 2003 but the basics
are covered really well and serve as a good foundation for future
learning.

That looks like a great site. I'll check it out before I buy any books.
