Just replaced a bad harddrive. Changed nothing else except loaded XP Pro
not 98SE as originally had. Everything seems to work fine except the
computer doesn't automatically power off but instead goes to the "OK to shut
off your computer" screen.
The computer did automatically power off when 98SE was used. The rest of
the shut down looks fine and doesn't take longer than normal. This problem
started when the OS was loaded and before any other software was loaded.

My first guess would be the registry was incorrectly loaded but where in the
registry is this changed?

See ""It is Now Safe to Turn Off Your Computer" Error Message When You
