Gmail/Vista Mail?

(I don't know if the problem described below is associated
with the Windows Mail program, or Internet Explorer, or
something else.)

Windows Mail works fine for me, and I use it for 99% of my
email. For occasional use when traveling, or at a friend's
home, I have both a Yahoo account and a Gmail account, both
of which I normally access via a web browser.

From my Vista system I can access the Yahoo account in the
normal manner, via IE. When I try the same thing with my
Gmail account, after entering my login and password
correctly, I get a white screen and the phrase "done" in the
lower left corner. I have waited as long as 30 minutes and
nothing else happens. Three feet away, on my W-2000 system
I have no trouble accessing the Gmail account in the usual
manner, and it works equally well at the local library which
has, I believe, XP.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Here are some methods of connecting to Gmail with Windows Mail:

http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/qt/et_get_gmail.htm

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273

<http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/setting-up-gmail-imap-support-for-windows-vista-mail/>

These instructions cover both the IMAP method and the POP
method of connecting. Choose one of these and don't get them
mixed up. You might choose the IMAP method first, since it
doesn't use port 25, which is often blocked for connections
that cross from one internet provider's equipment to another's
before they reach the server, in order to cause trouble for
spammers. If you have to switch from one method to the other,
remove the old email account before creating the new one to
make sure no settings carry across.

As the OP, I think I confused you with my wording. I'm not
trying to get Gmail into Windows Mail. I'm trying to use
Internet Explorer to go to the Gmail site and read my Gmail
there. I can do that on my other system, using Windows
2000, and I can do that at a public library where XP is the
OS, but when I try that with Vista after I type in my login
and password, all I get is a white screen, with "done" at
the lower left. I was wondering if Vista or Windows Mail
somehow is keeping Gmail from loading.

Thanks.

This sounds more like an IE problem than a Windows Mail
problem. You may want to repost this issue in a general Vista
newsgroup or an IE newsgroup.
