Globally changing the "file as" doesn't fix it for all contacts

We have several employees who have a large amount of contacts in Outlook
(1,000 or so) that had various "file as" settings. We have followed
instructions on changing the "file as" globally (through Tools / Email
Accounts / Change Directory, etc.). This worked for some, however they still
have about 100 or so contacts that have a "Mr." or "Mrs." included in the
name - these continue to default to being sorted as Mr. John Smith or Mrs.
Jane Thomas despite efforts to globally change the file as.

Any thoughts as to why it will not change these 100 or so contacts? (FYI,
the settings for newly added contacts are correct.)

We are using Outlook XP (2002) and are viewing them using the "Phone List"
view.

Possibly because the name is not stored by Outlook in separate FIrst Name and Last Name fields. A look at the All Fields page of the items in question should shed some light on that.

Thanks Sue. But we had checked that as well, and they are in fact in
different fields.)

Any other possible suggestions? Thanks again.

The user might have manually set File As to a desired value on those contacts.
