Global group permissions ignored when on NT 4.0

When logging on at an NT 4.0 workstation, permissions
directly assigned to windows 2000 and 2003 global groups
do not take effect. When logged on at 2000 or later
workstations, the permissions are applied correctly. Does
anyone know what causes this?

It depends entirely on what kind of domain you have, NT or 2000, mixed or
native.
The mode will define what group scopes are supported under what operating
systems.
