Hi,

I was wondering if it is recommended to have more than
one global catalog server. I have a small network with
two domain controllers, one exchange server, one database
server and about 20 clients. Thanks.

Randy,

That is subject to various opinions. In a small network such as yours I do
not really see any problem with making the second DC also a Global Catalog
Server. In fact, in most cases people will suggest that you have at least
two GCs per site.

The problem is when you have a large environment with multiple Sites the
replication that is caused by all of these GCs *can* become a problem.

However, in your situation I would absolutely make the second DC a Global
Catalog Server. I am sure that you know how to do this but I am including a
link to the How To for you...

You might want to do this in the off hours as it is typically suggested that
you restart the DC after making it a GC.

HTH,

Cary
