Hi
When I import a database into front page it askes me if I want to create a
connection to it, then it creates a global asa.
Is this global asa relient on frontpage extensions?
Thanks

No. However without the FP extensions, you would have to manually create the file and determine the
proper paths, set the permissions on the folder containing the database, etc.

Hi Thomas
Where do you set the permissions on the folder is it a matter of right click
the folder and and select the correct boxes?
I am trying to create webs that are not relient on FP extensions

Hi Paul,

First, FrontPage is using ASP (Active Server Pages) to interact with your
database. The global.asa file is an ASP script that provides global event
handlers and data to the ASP application, which is made up of ASP script
files on the server (in your web site). To run ASP, the web folders
containing ASP scripts must allow scripts to be executed on the server. And
the database file must be granted Read/Write/Change permission in the file
system on the server.

Typically, FrontPage will set these permissions up for you, but only if you
use FrontPage entirely to create the database-connective pages, only if you
use the FrontPage Publish feature to publish to the server, and only if the
web host allows ASP to be run on the server, as well as allowing FrontPage
or the author to set the necessary permissions on the server.
