I'm using Outlook 2007 on Vista and can't get gif files to play. The help in
outlook tells me to open the file and selact preview/preferences in the view
menu - I don't have that option in the view menu. can anyone help?

outlook can't display animated gif's. you need to view in browser:
open the message, go to the Actions section, Other Actions dropdown and
choose View in browser.

I need to ask this? Seems to be a ton of work to get a simple animation to run.
Maybe microsoft just sucks and is trying to take control of my system

You're the one who voluntarily added Outlook to your PC. How can that in
any way constitute "trying to take over"? That's like complaining that an
army is trying to take over a castle when the inhabitants lowered the
drawbridge and said, "Come on in!"

well, i didnt add outlook to my pc, it came with it. it seems to always
come with it cause they always add that stupid office crap to everything.
and i dont use it. but i use gifs. and im pissed cause there is nothing in
vista that will allow them to be viewed other than to open them in explorer.
which means if i try to upload them to the internet, they become unplayable
cause they are unplayable in their current viewing form. why, cause they
are so worried about photos that they forget people like the internet and to
play with websites too and dont want a mac to do it. i just want to pull my
hair out. and i cant find a way around it cause no old xp programs will
work, that i download off the site, cause the programs dont consider vista
and upgrade to xp. hell, i dont either, its a massive downgrade in a fancy
expensive wrapper. and yes ive been sending them the messages and
participating so they know how i feel.

Then why not uninstall it?

There is a multitude of freeware gif viewers that will work with Vista
available for download from the Internet.
