gif animation not working

I'm using the latest version of IE and WinXp Pro with SP1
and all updates. Internet explorer doesn't seem to
animate gif files for some reason even though the "play
animation in webpages" advanced option is on.
I tried using another brower for example Mozilla and
still wont animate gif files. I then tried using a
acdsee image viewer to view the gif file and it still
wont animate. I'm thinking it might be problem with
Windows Xp.
Please help. thanks.
 
Do you have a firewall installed that is disabling the display of animation
in animated gifs.

It's unlikely that Windows XP on its own is the problem. Much more likely
some software like a firewall (or more specifically, a feature of the
firewall program) is stopping the display.
