GIANT AntiSpyware Locks Up Machine

W

windsurferLA

I installed MicroSoft's AntiSpyware on my machine. Now, at times, for
unknown reason, my machine grinds to a complete halt. When I check the
Windows Task Manager, it indicates that GIANTantispywareupdater.exe is a
running application. It is running even though I did not start it, and
it is not listed as an application to be started automatically by the
scheduler. Closing GIANTantispywareupdater.exe takes several steps (as I
recall it has two parts), but when it is ultimately closed, my machine
is again operational.

I suspect that GIANTantispywareupdater.exe somehow turns itself on every
few hours for the purpose of retriving updates over the internet, and
that it hangs up my machine when it cannot make connection because my
modem is turned off.

SHORT OF REMOVING MICROSOFT ANTISPYWARE, HOW TO I BLOCK UPDATER FROM
STARTING?

After it downloads chk the box,"start antispyware",then answer no to all,
get the update for it,run a complete scan, then uninstall it.You only need to
run that every other week or so.

Open MSAS Options/settings and turn off auto-updater. About the
grinding thing-MSAS should not be affecting your machine that way. You
may want to try a uninstall and then a reinstall of it.

If a new app doesn't like your existing setup. Remove it and use
something else.

Microsoft Antispyware Beta is developed from Giant Antispyware which
Microsoft purchased in 2004. The GIANTantispywareupdater.exe is the
automatic update component of your Microsoft Antispyware Beta version.

You could try reconfiguring the Microsoft Antispyware to turn off the
automatic update function. That should resolve your issue. However
you will have to then rely on regular manual updates to keep your
protection up to date.

Also if your Microsoft Antispyware is not program version 1.0.701 then
you should go to http://download.microsoft.com and get the latest
program version.

Good luck
