Ghosting/Imaging freeware

Hi guys,

I am looking for a free ghosting/imaging software application for WinXP.
Something like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, but free (and legal) :).

Thank you.

This one is free for home users. I have used it and it worked for me.

The unfortunate failing in DriveImage XML is just that ... XML,
needing a working operating system to make a backup, plus a method
of 'locking' files so that they can be included in the image while
being used. This is NOT a DOS imaging tool like Ghost or TeraByte.

So far, to the best of my knowledge, there is NO other DOS executable
like TeraByte or Ghost (not later than version 2003)which does
precisely what you want to do, and these are commercial wares
(albeit almost free in the case of TeraByte under $20). I mention
this in a.c.f only to note the absence of freeware which performs
identically. A freeware version would be nice .. if some kind soul
would just do so.

Partition Saving is pretty simple with the DOS prog at
http://www.partition-saving.com/

If using it t save to NTFS volumes you have to run it once in a XP
environment to create the filename on the NTFS drive, but it works fine.
Can save just occupied sectors too.
If you just need a temporary image(drive swapping or
something)Terabyte's Image For Dos is fully functional for 30 days

All I can tell you is I keep a clone of my 4 partitions on my external
harddisk. I then added the available plugin to my Ultimate Boot CD For
Windows and the other day I booted from UBCD4Win and completely restored my
harddisk and my computer started just fine.

http://www.pcinspector.de/clone-maxx/uk/welcome.htm - pretty slick but
still freeware. May have trouble with Serial ATA drives. Works from
DOS.

http://www.restorer2000.com/ - Commercial data recovery product demo
with free fully functional imaging feature.

http://home.tiscali.de/zdata/hdcopy_e.htm - Windows app, looks good.

http://www.diskman.co.uk/default.aspx - heavy duty freeware with
imaging feature.

http://www.roadkil.net/RawCopy.html - works from Windows. Very simple.

http://www.roadkil.net/DiskImg.html - even simpler version with less
features (don't ask me to explain, because I don't know :)).

Even the vernable Ranish Partition Manager - current versions - includes
a partition copy and paste function, with progress bar. Seems to work
well.

One difference I've noted is some image software copies a partition to an
already formatted partition, others copies a selected partition to an
unused section of a hard disk that has been neither defined as a
partition nor formatted.

A question?

Did you have to purchase the plugins?

Being a little lazy here; how do you install the plugins on the UBCD4Win
disk.

Thanks
