ghost writing

I am getting a problem that is taking over all writing functions regardless
of wp application: word 2000, microsoft works wp, any program , including xp,
that requires typing info into a dialog box. The problem [ worm?
incompatibility?] has these features: in wp, the "ghost" inserts
--------------- repeatedly, or ++++++++++++, or repeatedly keys [enter], or
creates multiple "files"-- in a few minutes the ghost had created 52 files.
Along with the keying, there is an audio stutter and a video stutter or
oscillation of the icon images.

Recently I installed Word 2000 and though installed, each time I boot, I get
the message that it is trying to install and that certain files are missing.

Any solutions out there?
