Hi Kim:
I use Ghost Enterprise v7.0 upgraded to v8.0 { I still use parts from v7.0

}
Win2K or WinXP is installed and patched. All software the end-users will use is loaded from
the MS Office suite to Adobe Acrobat, viewers, DVD players, Roxio software, etc, etc. All
software is configured and all settings are set from whether a software will look for
updates on the 'net or not to what the defaults for MS Outlook will be. When this is
completed and the platform, call it the Ghost Source, is checked for Quality Control. When
this is done the account used to configure the PC is copied to...
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User
The platform is then SysPrep'd and a Ghost image is made. Since this is the Enterprise
product, the image is made over Ethernet connected to a 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet switch. A
WinXP system with SP2 and all software that is about 4GBs in size will take approx. 8 mins
to create an image on a Dell GX240.
Using the multicast IP capabilities of Ghost Enterprise, I can then restore the image to
several computers at the same time. All I have to is up bootup run the mini setup wizard
and change the machine name and IP address then join the Domain.
I not only use Ghost in deployment of platforms, I use Ghost when servicing computers with
BSoD and other problems.
Ghost is the *only* Symantec product I swear by and not swear at !

| Because I can get a wide variety of opinions here, I am
| curious how you roll out a large amount of new
| workstations at your business? Do you use Ghost, or some
| other product, or do you use a different method. We will
| be rolling out 200+ workstations beginning in January.
|
| Thanks for your thoughts and input.
