Ghost Files - Change the path?

Can you change where MS Word puts its ~$filename.doc when you open a word
document? I work at a school and have created a share (novell) where
students can save Word docs for there teachers but can not delete files
(because they will delete each others). If you have create and write
permission and do not have delete permission, Word leaves these
~$filename.doc files all over the place. Sometimes you can't open the
original filename, you have to find the ~$filename to open it.
This whole thing is a pain and I wish I could disable or change the path
that word does this. It always uses the folder where the original file is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Hi John,

Unfortunately, no, there's no way to change the location of that file or
most of the temporary files Word uses (see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632). Someone will have to log on as
an administrator or power user and manually delete the files.

Thank you. I have seen the Knowlege Base you sent me to but it doesn't say
if you can change file locations. I guess it is hard coded memory stuff.
Thanks for your time.

If each student has there own personal windows log in you can do the below.
If they don't the below will not work because it is based on the fact that
you can give special permission to each folder.

In this type of situation you may just want to create a folder for each
student and give each special permission to view just there own folder.
Additionally you can give permission to teacher to be able to access each
student folder.

If you are not able to do this the local Network Admin should be able to do
this, but if you have alot of students he may not be willing :)
