Have you tried posting your question in an MS Word
newsgroup? It has nothing to do with Windows.

I got this from Word Help to remove the Task Pane - so just change it to add
the Task Pane ie "check the Startup Task Pane where it says "clear":

"Turn off the task pane on startup

Use this procedure to prevent the task pane from opening automatically when
you start Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Close all documents and WordMail messages.
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the View tab, clear the Startup Task Pane check box.
Exit Word."

What Larry has suggested is a toggle for once one is in the document - it
removes or adds the Task Pane - I don't think that it affects the situation
the next time one opens a Word document. Not when I tested it anyway.

I have checked out what the Word Help suggests ie using
Tool/Options/View/check Task Pane and this works for my Word.
