when i am in internet explorer on THE top of the page you have the buttons eg
favorites/ print/ search etc

at the moment its as if i am pressing the search button because everytime i
am on a page the left hand side turns to search without me wanting it to and
now it is really getting on my nerves

HOW DO I TURN IT OFF

PLEASE help

Hi Kelly,

Right-click the header area, click on customize. You can remove that icon
here. However, you may find that if you just ensure that the search window
on the left is closed before cloing Internet Explorer, it should not
reappear in subsequent windows.

Hi Kelly,

Reset the toolbar setting from Registry using this fix:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Download the above fix and unzip it in the Desktop.
Close all instances of Internet Explorer
Run the .exe file which you just extracted
Select "Repair Internet Explorer toolbars" and click Repair button.
Open Internet Explorer.

FYI, the side Search bar status is also stored in the ITBarLayout registry value, where the Toolbar positions are also stored. If that does not help, run a scan using Ad-aware.
