Does anyone know how to get rid of Spider, Soitaire etc?

If I delete the exe files from the system32 folder they just regenerate.

I thought I might be able to do it through DOS, but I don't seem to be able
to boot in DOS mode - I tried pressing F8 but XPPro just ignored it and
carried on....

Modify the file C:\Windows\Inf\Sysoc.inf to remove the word "Hide"
from the pertinent Windows Components entries. Be sure to leave the
two surrounding commas in place. (Iow, change the line
"Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,Hide,7" to read
"Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7") Save and exit Notepad.

Then click Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows
Components. You'll now be able to see Games listed and
"uninstallable.".

Control Panel - Add Remove Programs, on the left click Windows
Components.

In that, highlight Accessories and Games, click Details. Highlight
Games, click details and uncheck the ones you do not want (or at the
outer level uncheck Games as a whole). Leave other boxes alone, and OK
