Getting rid of Outlook 2003 folders

I have a number of folders in Outlook (2003 SP3) that I either do not use or
no longer use (E.G. Journal), or use only very infrequently (E.G. Notes), or
do not care what is in them (E.G. Outbox). Given that I have a number of
folders and sub-folders in Outlook, I would like to remove them either
altogether or at least from view. I have tried right-clicking on the
folder, but the delete option in the context menu is greyed out. Is there
anyway I can delete / hide these. The list is:

In the main mailbox:-
Journal
Junk E-mail
Notes
Outbox
Sync Issues
Search Folders
In Folders that I create using outlook data files
Deleted Items
Inbox (needed on some folders but not others)
Outbox (some folders have this and some do not, but I don't know why)
Sent Items (needed on some folders but not others)
Search Folders

None of the folders Outlook creates by default can be hidden or removed.
The list is:

If you create a new PST, it will contain only the Deleted Items folder. You
can then manually create folders of any name you choose and they will be
deletable, even if their names match any of the default folder names. If,
however, you make that PST the delivery location at any point, Outlook will
create the full complement of default folders and make them undeletable.
