Getting rid of a background or watermark - Word 2007

Hi, I have had a document prepared for me using Word 2007 and sent to me in
"compatibility mode" ... I believe that means it can be opened and read in
earlier versions. The document has a background pattern/shadow on each page
- I have tried to remove it as a watermark, but it won't go away. I asked
the person who prepared the document how I can remove this, and they simply
sent me another document without the background ... clearly they don't want
to tell me and keep me reliant on them. I would like to know how to do it
myself!! Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Trish,

The background is probably in a shape that's been inserted into the page header or footer.

And if you'll download the "Compatibility Pack" (free) from the
Microsoft website, you'll be able to open .docx format files and not
have to rely on them saving them as .doc format.

Hi Trish,

The background is probably in a shape that's been inserted into the page header or footer.

Hi Peter,

Actually, it's the others who'll need to download install the compatibility pack - the OP is using Word 2007.

I don't think so -- she said it was "prepared for her in W2007" and
"sent to her in compatibility mode" -- which might mean it was sent as
a .doc.
