Getting outline view to format an outline properly

I want to be able to give students a proper outline of a power point 2003
presentation. In particular, there are some headings for which there are too
many sub-points to fit on one slide. I use the function to "split text
between two slide". However, using that method, the new slide shows the
continued sub headings as though they were a new subject.

The main problem with the above is that when I print outline view the
continued sub-headings look as though they were under a new main subject.
E.g.

MAIN HEADING A
-Sub heading one
-Sub heading two
-Sub heading three

MAIN HEADING A
-Sub heading four
-Sub heading five

I realize that I can change the heading for these continued sub-points so it
is apparent they are continued from the prior slide. E.g. "MAIN SUBJECT TWO
Continued..." But, this is not really satisfactory. I suppose I can
manually edit the outline in Word to fix these problems. But, now I have two
separate files to try to keep in sync with each other.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the reply.

I just finished looking at Office 2007 to see if this more recient version
has more features in this regard. However, I can't figure out how to get the
"split text between two slides" feature to work. It is not on the small icon
that appears to the right of the text where you can control auto-fit. The
2007 help file says to just put an "enter" on the line, while in outline
view, but that doesn't do anything but add a blank line to the current text.
Perhaps it is a bug.

If I type more text than will fit in a placeholder text box, I get the "Split
text between two slides" as one of the options on the little gadget that appears
beneath the text box.

I just checked the 2007 Power Point version they have at school. I do get
the Autofit option, but there is not a split text option. This is true
whether or not I have Autofit selected.

You mention the icon that appears to the right of the text ... mine shows
up at the left side of the text. Are you typing in a right-to-left language
by any chance?

Sorry, it is English I am typing in. But, I just misstated the side... the
icon appears on the left side, just like yours.

I should mention that I am using a school computer, which has a lot of
security lock-downs. So, we can't get software updates, and have some of the
ability to change settings locked down. Perhaps this is a factor.

Regardless of the reason my school computer doesn't have all the options,
Power point just is not written to do the outline view I was hoping for.
