Hi,
We're running Microsoft XP Professional on our computer
and I just recently downloaded MSN Messenger. The
problem is, it loads automatically whenever I turn on my
computer. I went to the Tools/Options tab in messenger
and unclicked the "Run this program when windows starts"
section, and the program still turns on. I also tried
going to msconfig and looking in the startup tab...I
don't see messenger on the list there to unclick.

Is there anything else I can try?

Any help will be appreciated!

Windows Xp comes with built-in Windows Messenger and installing MSN
Messenger doesnot uninstall Windows Messenger. So remove Windows Messenger
manually by unchecking it from Add/Remove Windows Components in Add/Remove
Programs in Control Panel and then restart and check the Tools Options
settings for MSN Messenger again.

If you use MSN as an ISP, I don't know about the latest version of MSN software, but
previous versions of MSN software didn't allow internet connection without MSN Messenger
running.

I think what is getting loaded is actually the *Windows* Messenger, that
comes with the system. Run that explicitly (in All Programs -
Accessories) and check the setting there too. Then in Outlook Express
Tools - Options make sure 'logon to Messenger' is not checked, and that
in its View - Layout that Contacts is not checked.
