Getting help with SyncToy

Is there any place where I can get help with SyncToy?

The specific problem I'm having, using 1.4.0.0 on WindoswsXP is that it
is syncronising read only files as read only copies. So far, so good.

The following day, when the apparently read-only input files have been
updated, Synctoy is complaining that the output files are read only...

Write a script or bat file to run attrib on the files at startup.

Yes, I can do that easily enough (I have some scripts in excess of
100,000 lines - it's most of my job) but that's not a very "elegant"
solution.

This will be fixed in the next release of SyncToy. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ah, the bliss of knowing that the only problem in a program which is
otherwise perfect, is going to be fixed. Thank you for letting me know.

I've been using PC's ever since they were invented. The happiest times,
as I recall, were when nothing was "broken". In the early days, that
didn't leave a whole lot *working*, but it's the lack of errors that
drives my satisfaction.

Can anyone help? I'd be really grateful.

I have three PCs and a NAS.

I have plenty of HDD space on each PC and have set up the following
partitions on each PC:

Data (My Documents),
Audio (My Music)
Visual (My Pictures, My Videos)

I create, delete and amend my datafiles on each PC

I would like to to use SyncToy to ensure that these datafiles are
available and current at each PC (and backed up to the NAS). I'm not
sure how to proceed. My concern is that somehow earlier versions of a
document are saved rather than the latest version?

Any help gratefully recieved?

It sounds like a description of the "Synchronise" action:

The synchronize action will make two folders mirror each other, keeping
the latest changes made to the files in either folder. New and updated
files are copied both ways. Renames and deletes on either side are
repeated on the other.

The catch is the handling of the deletes. Delete one by accident, and
fail to notice, and the others are eventually gone. You can solve this
by taking "Contribute" backups from one folder to somewhere else.

I schedule a nightly run of "All pairs" to handle all my backup
requirements. I have a program which scans the resultant logs to warn me
of errors.
