I have 2 Dell Pc's both running XP Home (SP2)
They are connected via a D-Link DSL504 router

I currently use a PS/2 VGA KVM switch to swap between the 2 PC's, but
having just got a 20" TFT display I'm hoping to find an alternative to
the expensive DVI kvm's.

I have set-up Remote Desktop as per this article -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/remoteassist/intro.mspx

Whenever I try to connect either from PC1 to PC2 or vice versa, within
seconds I get the following error -

Remote Desktop Disconnected.

The client could not connect to the remote computer
Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer may be too
busy to accept incoming connections.
Please try connecting again later. If the problem persistes, cotact
your system administrator.

I have set-up the XP firewall as suggested in other articles and
enabled Remote Supoprt in System Properties on both PC's.

Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks
Pete

XP Home doesn't do Remote Desktop (ie--you cannot RD into a XP Home system).
RD is a feature of XP Pro.

That accounts for it then.....

Better buy a kvm....

Thanks

Or you can look at getting another "remote" control software. RealVNC
"seems" to do a good job and may be the "free" personal version may be what
you are looking for.

Also, not but a lot a LCD monitors also provide a VGA connection.

Yes, I use VNC a lot. However it doesn't create a new
session on the target box. It just screen-scrapes the
console screen. This may be good enough for the OP of course.

Cheers,

Cliff

Thanks guys.

I tried a Belkin DVI kvm - simply awful. It does not work.

I'm currently running the monitor in D-SUB mode in conjunction with a
kvm I got off ebay for a few quid and it works fine, so for the time
being I'll stick with that.
