We are in the process of moving our workstations from a
workgroup to a Windows 2003 domain environment. To copy a
profile for a workstation, I right-clicked the 'my
computer' icon, advanced tab, click settings button at
User profiles, highlighted the local profile and
clicked 'copy to' and browsed to a domain profile.
However when I log in as the domain profile, firstly the
desktop looks a bit strange and I cannot run any program.
For eg. if I run excel, i get 'error accessing registry'.
If I make the domain user a member of the local
Administrators group of the workstation, then everything
works fine. But this is not a good solution security
wise. If I make the domain user as a member of the
local "power users" group, I'll still get the same error.
How can I solve this problem? What's the best way to copy
a local profile to a domain profile?
