'All of a sudden' our families WinXP business PC is going to the welcome
screen after short, and seemingly random amounts of idol time. I checked and
no one will own up to making any changes in the settings and I can not find
anywhere in the power settings that seems to be causing this.

I don't want to get dumped to the welcome screen unless I choose to log off
or switch users.

The solution to this is??
Thanks for any help/suggestions.

2 settings I know of are on the Screen Saver screen and also under Power Settings Advanced tab.
make sure they are both turned off.

Go to Start -> Control Panel and double click the Display icon.
In Display Properties, click on the Screen Saver page.
Remove the check mark next to "On resume, show the Welcome
Screen".
Click OK.

Back in Control Panel, double click Power Options.
In the Power Options Properties, click on the Advanced page.
Remove the check mark from the box next to "Prompt for password
when computer resumes from standby".
Click OK.

Good luck
