Hi Everybody,

I am having quite some issues with a new computer that we got for our
company's director. It is an HP Pavilion Media Center m8325f Elite. Although
it comes with Windows Vista Home edition, we bought the upgrade to Windows
Vista Business edition. Once we installed this upgrade, we started having a
blue screen every other time we reboot this computer. The error code that we
get ( 0x0C5 ) talks about a driver that got corrupted. There are some
articles in your site that suggests choosing a specific starting mode to
identify which driver is the one that tries to use a page outside its pool.

It is not even a month since we bought the computer, and now we are
having another kind of blue screen in which Windows complains about a
specific antivirus file that got corrupted.

I know that there is not much that you can do other than to give
suggestions about how to isolate the problem. Still, I thought about letting
you know.

Best Regards,

Manuel

I agree with Carey. After being a not-so-proud owner of a few HP
boxes/laptops, I discovered that they are very sensitive to the drivers. And
HP is pretty slow updating their drivers.

IMHO, I would buy a Directory something more suited for an office
environment out of the box and forget about morphing it. Oh wait, a Director,
I forgot they want all the noisy flashy things. ;)

I forgot to mention. Instead of HP laptop #3 for the wifey I bought her a
Mac. My ROI has risen dramatically. :)

Hi Mr Frisch,

Wow! Thank you very much for your answer! I must say that I already
downloaded and tried all of the specified drivers on the list that you kindly
sent me, as well as an additional driver from RealTek for the Ethernet
Network Controller.

Still... I never thought about re-installing them. I know by personal
experience that sometimes a driver must be installed before certain other
drivers. Let me try that and see what happens.

Thank you very much!

Manuel

Hi Mr PNutts,

Thank you very much for your feedback! I agree with you, we should have
bought a Dell computer for business. We got flashed by the quad processor and
the low price. I know, I should know better... :(

Hi Mr Bob,

It is using Bell's Business Internet Security. Still, I disabled it and
the blue screen came out anyway. As of now, I'm using the Windows firewall
and Windows Defender.

PS: Off the record, I agree with you, we should get rid of that Bell thing
and buy Norton. Unfortunately, we are going through some budget issues...

HP is pretty slow updating their drivers.

Yep! HP never upgrade drivers for their hardware - I have two perfectly good
HP printers in the attic which I can't use with Vista. I avoid buying HP
products now.

Hi Mr Bob,

Thank you very much for your advice. I'll keep it in mind. I hope you
don't mind if I first focus on the installed drivers, mostly because the blue
screen that I get (0xC5) reffers to an attempt to touch invalid memory at a
process IRQL that is too high. As the Microsoft documentation says, this is
almost always caused by a driver that has corrupted the system pool. I'm not
exactly sure the authority in which the antivirus runs in, but I'm inclined
to believe that no antivirus can perform this kind of damage in Windows.

My plan of action is to reinstall each driver with the latest version.
If that doesn't solve the problem, I'll use the Driver Verifier Tool, as
recommended by the following articles:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291810/en-us
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244617/EN-US/

If that doesn't work, I'll reinstall Vista Home edition using the
recovery CDs, and I'll add some scripts in the start menu to log on into the
Domain automatically.

Thanks!!!

Hi KingOFChaos,

I know that, for servers, each brand has its strengths and weakness,
and it is my experience that both of them are quite reliable. However, as
computers for end-users, I know by personal experience that at least I can
download all and the latest drivers from the Dell web page while, in the case
of HP with this particular model, the RealTek Ethernet Network driver is
missing, and additionally I have an installed driver that is corrupting the
system pool.

Perhaps I'm an isolated case (I hope). In time, I am quite sure a new
driver will come out with this bug fixed, and HP will post all applicable
drivers in its web page. However, as of now, I miss Dell.

Just a personal preference...

PS: This posting has been posted "AS IS"

Hi Mr Frisch,

I reinstalled the drivers and I'm afraid I still have the blue screen
(0xC5). I'm going to try to isolate the problem as suggested by the following
articles:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291810/en-us
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244617/EN-US/

If that doesn't work, I think that the best solution would be to format
the computer and go back to Vista Home edition using the recovery CD's. I'll
try again in 6 months, when new drivers might be available.

Best Regards,

Tarh Ik
