Getting at old PST file (esp to Brian Tillman)

Hi, I'm posting a new message here, even though I'm rsponding to an old
thread. It dates back to March 4, so I doubt if it will be seen.

Brian Tillman's response response to my loss of my local folders is below.
My further question is this. I did have my *.pst file backed up. My
problem now is that I can't remember how I got Outlook to look on my local
harddrive instead of the server. Brian explains how to look at the current
path, but I don't know how to CHANGE it so it looks on my hard drive instead
of the server. Ideally, I would be able to switch between the PST files,
since so much tme has passed getting my new pc up and running that I've
accumulated a lot of mail on the server PST file now too.

All your folders are stored in a single file called a "Personal Folders
File". The file type of this file is ".pst" If you computer crashed, you
had this file on your local hard drive, and you had to replace that hard
drive, chances are that your previous file is gone. Backups o local drives
generall do not happen automatically. If you didn't back it up, it probably
wasn't backed up.

At any rate, to see if you still have one, enable showing hidden files and
folders and search you hard drive for "*.pst". You can check to see if this
is the same one you're currently using by comparing the path to the file you
find with the path to the file Outlook is using. Right-click on "Personal
Folders" or "Outlook Today" or "Mailbox" (the first if you have more than
one of these names) and choose Propertied. Click "Advanced" and the path to
the file will be displayed.

You can connect to the file by File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
If you want Outlook to deliver your mail to it you can change this in
Tools-> E-mail Accounts-> button Next-> at the bottom
You can disconnect from a pst-file (except for the default one)
rightclicking the root of that folder and choose Disconnect

If Roady's answer isn't clear enough, ask again. One of us will elucidate.
