Hi
I have WINXP Home
My computer is a HP Pavillion only 5 months old.
How do I get into the Bios
Thanks in advance.

Most PC's reach BIOS by tapping F1 while booting, but it varies. You might
want to check with HP or wherever you purchased it.

Hit the Delete key when booting up.

I reccomned tapping the F1 key as soon as you press the power button to turn
your pc on. But if that doen't work, try pressing random function keys when
your computer is first booting up.

Someone who doesn't know HOW to get into the bios shouldn't be going INTO
the bios. You obviously have not done any homework what-so-ever. You can
cripple your system - totally - by choosing incorrect settings.

The operating system is immaterial, it has no bearing upon how one
enters the BIOS. Only you know what motherboard and BIOS you have, so
only you know the answer to your question. ;-}

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site doesn't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

How do I access my computer's setup (BIOS)

How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to access the BIOS
before Windows even starts to boot. One common way is to press the Del key
when you first power on, but that's not necessarily right for your computer.
Watch the screen carefully when you first boot; there's often a message
there telling you what to do. If not, check your system documentation or
check with your vendor.

Also look here: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Or just
try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for you.

I don't know what HP uses, but far and away the most common key is Del, not
F1.

All Dell's that I've used use F2. Some early no-name motherboards used
Crtl-Esc.

I do not think that I have ever owned a system that did not say which key to press to get
into Setup (BIOS) flash on the splash screen when the system boots (before to the Windows
logo). Has the original poster looked at the screen on boot to see which key to press to
enter Setup (BIOS)? Perhaps the original poster does not know that System
Setup/Setup/BIOS are terms used as synonyms by PC makers?

You haven't owned a new system in the last 10 years? Wow. How does Win 3.1 work these days.

Noone shows system info anymore but company's logos. You have to enter the BIOS top set it to show old screens.

There are a wide variety of keys and key combinations used. I didn't say
that *all* computers used Del, I said it was most common.

Read here for much more information on what various computers uise:
