I posted this in another newsgroup but I'm new to Microsoft
Newsgroups and think this might be a better spot for a
response.

Today I loaded the latest critical update for XP. Since
that time every time I boot the computer or go from one
thing to another (say Outlook Express to surfing the web or
to My Documents) I receive this message.

From Internet Explorer
A script on this page is causing Internet explorer to run
slowly. If it continues to run your computer may become
unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?

Then YES or NO

It doesn't matter which one I click on it keeps coming back.

So far i've run an updated AntiVirus check on my system and
it's clean.

I did a System Restore back to a date last week.

Nothing helps. Can anyone offer me some advice? Did the
Critical Patch do something to my computer? Is this a big
coincidence and there's a new worm out there (I can't find
anything similar mentioned anywhere).

Any help would be appreciated. I'm only a novice so if you
do have some advice please speak slowly :-)

You may be able to increase the timeout:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=175500

But, it is also possible you just have a ridiculously large and full
Internet Cache.

In Internet Explorer --
Tools -->> Options
General tab
Click on:
Delete Cookies
Clear History
Delete Files -->> check the "Delete all offline content" box and then
click OK
(That last one may take some time in your case.)
Click on the Settings button and change the "Amount of disk space to use:"
to 80MB.
Click OK
Click OK
Close IE.

Good Luck!

Thanks Shenan.
I tried as you suggested but it did not solve the problem.

Most likely the reason is that IE is trying to detect a lengthy script
that could make lead to IE crashing on you. Since the actions you are
doing are not out of the ordinary (and do not appear to be
custom-script related) I would rule out spyware/other hidden softwares
that "get installed" once you choose to install some advertisement
software/play a game that installed some activex components etc.
