HI ........... I HAVE BEEN RUNNING XP PRO ON A SYSTEM THAT I BOUGHT FROM A
COMPUTER FAIR, IT IS NOT A GENUINE COPY.

I AM ABOUT TO BUY, XP HOME, WILL I HAVE PROBLEMS INSTALLING THE LEGIT XP, IS
IT JUST STRAIGHT FORWARD AS PUTTING THE DISC IN AND INSTALLING,

If you are trying to install a WinXP Service Pack and getting the
following:

You need to purchase and a _legitimate_ retail or OEM full license
of WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CDs and Product Keys.

I'm afraid that the only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home
is to format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade
path or technique.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.

Ouch! Please don't yell at us. We can hear you if you type normally, in
mixed case.

There are no problems installing XP Home, but if you don't realize it, let
me point out that a clean installation is required. You can not downgrade
from Professional to Home.
