genuine windows software

i'm being plagued by a little blue star in bottom right of my e-machine and
messages relating to it telling me i may be victim of software fraud and i
don't have genuine windows installed. it came with the machine when i bought
it brand new. anytime this pops up i can't sign in to my hotmail account, and
it's followed by a warning on my norton ant-virus that they have a license
problem. again, i have genuine norton subscription. is this a worm or 2, or
genuine microsoft disruption? if it is microsoft how do i stop it?
