You can even get the benifit from 2002 if you install the latest runtime.

You dont need VSnet 2004 to run generics in C# 2.0.

No, but you need the 2004 compiler and runtime, which niether vs.net 2002
nor 2003 will use.

message Bernardo,

Generics and C# 2.0 is slated for release with Visual Studio .NET
2004.
Neither is available in VS.NET 2003.

Hope this helps.

Ah, no, if .NET Framework 1.1 didn't work with VS 2002 (which it didn't)
then neither will .NET Framework 2.0.

Generics come with Whidbey - next VS.NET.
If you have MSDN Universal subscription you might contact MS and they'll
send you a copy on DVD.
Otherwise - check out Mono (http://www.go-mono.com/) - I think they support
generics or
Rotor -
http://research.microsoft.com/Collaboration/University/Europe/RFP/Rotor/

The Rotor+Gyro version of C# generics is kind of restrictive: it
allows only one constraint for the generics. So at this point it is
more like an experimental feature. It's usable, but could be
painful/annoying in practice.

Java's generics from their Early Access currently already allow
multiple constraints.

I always wonder who pushed whom. I know Java people kept
postponing/refusing to incorporate generics for many years. Is Java
incorporating generics now due to pressure from C#, or is C#
incorporating generics because Java is going to do it?

Java has been planning to have generics for a very long time. It's been
put off so that they could "get it right" (although I'm not convinced
they're doing so; from what I've seen I prefer the C# version). I
rather suspect that generics has always been in .NET's plan, but time
constraints prevented MS from including it in V1.
