Bernardo,

Generics and C# 2.0 is slated for release with Visual Studio .NET 2004.
Neither is available in VS.NET 2003.

Hope this helps.

How can I use Generics?
How can I use C# 2.0?

I already have VS.NET 2003 Enterprise Edition and still can´t use
generics...
I´m trying to make a generic collection myCollection<vartype> and still no
can do...

Any info would be great!

Thanx

It is NOT specific to 2004 VSnet.

It IS specific to 2004 .NET RUNTIME

You can even get the benifit from 2002 if you install the latest runtime.

You dont need VSnet 2004 to run generics in C# 2.0.

I should clarify, the reason I said VS.NET 2004 was because I didn't
want to confuse the original poster by splitting hairs over the .NET
runtime, VS.NET, etc, etc.

No, as some have said before, you have to wait for the next version of the
SDK or VS.NET.

That doesn't change that vs.net 2002 or 2003 will not support generics. The
compiler paths are pretty well hard coded. With 1.0 and 1.1 you can half ass
it, it is still not correct.

Im running 1.1 on VSnet 2002 atm and will run 2.0 on VSnet 2002 also.

You can upgrade if you want.

Currently the only other feature is a ffagoty UI enhancement and POGO (for
refactoring - winforms dont refactor at all well on the designer so I dont
hold up much hopes for POGO and winforms and designer mode - class viewer is
not gona have refactoring by drag n drop its just gona be right click,
generate parameters, cut n paste to a method refactoring half aarsed
approach - not worth the upgrade).

Just run the SDK on you're current IDE. Good enuf. And will get access to
the generics you need.

Im running 1.1 on VSnet 2002 atm and will run 2.0 on VSnet 2002 also.

Probably won't compile, I'm afraid to say. Have you actually checked your
exectuables and ensured they are compiling under 1.1? Just having the SDK
installed does not change how VS.NET 2002 works, it will still use the 1.0
compilers and framework. While there are some hacks, their support and
actual correctness is subject to question and may not work in the 2.0
series.

Also, I imagine the built in intellisense will throw a fit about the
generics, which kind of defeats the point of using an IDE if the system
isn't capable of understanding the language you are using.

D

Daniel O'Connell

Actually yes they do because I removed 1.0 :D

Have you actually CHECKED, or are you just assuming?

We will see, those that cant get it working can always switch to another IDE
if they dont want to upgrade. Or use a p2p download :D

That is their choice, I simply doubt it will work in 2002 or 2003. I doubt
your claim that the 1.0 compilers work in 2002 or 2003.

Did you remove the 1.0 SDK AND Framework(C#, J#, and VB compilers actually
come with the framework, not the SDK)? Check to make sure
c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.0.3705\ doesn't exist?

Ive checked, because I removed it , every thing gone paf. 1.1 works for me.
