generic vs EPSON ink

I have a C82, love the printer, very fast, good quality prints. I'm nearing
the time to buy more ink in the near future. I am looking for some input on
the use of non-oem (generic - cheap stuff) inks in this printer.

I've heard a couple things in the past. 1) Non oem inks can clog the
printer. 2) Non oem inks are not DURABRITE, so printed photos will not be as
good, nor will print outs last as long.

Retail OEM black ink costs $35, and on ebay I can get 2 non-oem blacks for
$6, and one of each color for $11, the price difference is huge.

Has anyone here used non oem ink in their epson (c82?) printer? What do you
think about it?

I bought a kit for my 785EPX from www.ink-etc.com and did several
before/after prints. You can't tell the difference. The last cartridge I
filled 4 times before the yellow stopped working, and my current cartridge
is on it's second refill. No clogs so far after about 9 months.

I can't speak about any other manufacturer, but Jet-Tec inks certainly are
pigmented (DURAbrite is merely Epson's trade name) - or so Tony has me
believe... ;o)

eBay not always offer lowest price and I have seen many people fighting to
overpay the stuff they can get from many store without having to fight and
wait.

They could, it depends on ink quality. C82 is prone to clogs because of
pigment inks.
2) Non oem inks are not DURABRITE, so printed photos will not be as

Epson inks are excellent quality in *all* aspects. For sure, there isn't any
other aftermarket ink with same substantial quality. But... there are
aftermarket inks that are good enough, someone can't see the difference
(there are differences but slight). I earn money doing refilling, so trust
me for what I say.

Huge differences in prices usually means huge differences in quality too! In
my opinion, choose midrange/high priced non oem cartridges. For small
quantity buy from some place near you, you can have direct contact. For
bigger quantities you can buy from someone without direct contact, choose
someone you first talk with, via email/phone. Judge the person/firm not the
inks.

Check out some reputable ink vendors, the real cheap stuff will work but you
don't know exactly what you're getting. Vendors like that will tell you
anything to keep you happy whether it is true or not.
Look at Media Street www.mediastreet.com or MIS associates, Lyson
www.Lyson.com, or inkjet art www.inkjetart.com. All make and sell good quality
supplies.

I had an Epson C80. I used only Epson ink. It was a pain in the neck. I
wasted more ink cleaning the heads than I used printing. One month past
warranty, all the heads clogged permanently. I tossed it. My wife gave me
her C80, because she was fed up with it. I had the same head cleaning
problems. I switched to a generic ink, and after one year I have not had
to clean the heads once.

I call it the "Rainbow" brand. It comes in a white box with a stylized
rainbow in the upper right hand corner. It is sold by several vendors.
What I can say is that all of the Epson cartridges must be replaced at the
same time. Initially, of course, you will be tossing Epson cartridges that
you paid good money for. After that, however, you will save a lot of
money.

Man, I really don't know whata says when we try to save money and now
allow to buy the cheapest. So, if the vendor will have to charge more for
the same cheap ink in order to sale more (to make more money)?

I don't mind to spend few extra bucks *if* I know I get a better quality,
and I would shoot myself *if* I know I am stupid to spend extra money for
equal or less quality. So far, I decide to stay alive so for the past many
years (since my first inkjet printer) I always shop for the lowest I can
find.

Same with the CIS (Continuous Ink System) I know 3 companies making them,
and (1) sells for $150 (2) sells for $250 and (3) the one I got mine usually
sells for around $130 *but* they change the price almost weekly, and I got
mine when the price was $62. Now I wonder if I made the mistake to get mine
so cheap?????? and if the quality is 1/2 as good as the regular full price??
