Is it? Show me a case where it is. The last batch of Kenmore branded
Maytag dryers I picked up shared identical parts with the Maytag
model... I know this because they all failed in the exact same way. I
don't know about my current dryer as I've not had a chance to fix it.

I believe that Maytag is now Whirlpool. I helped my late friend (the
aforementioned electronics technician) repair his Sears washing machine.
I was disgusted by what I found -- the cabinet steel was so thin that I
bent it with my thumb. The timer was junky, just like the timer in my
Sears washer, full of flimsy plastic parts that stick on two cycles.

In nearby Berkeley there's a man who has built a wonderful business
rebuilding and selling used washers and dryers. I have one of his
dryers, and really should have bought a rebuilt washer from him rather
than a new one from Sears.

He only sells Whirlpool and Sears machines. He likes them and considers
them worthy of rebuilding. He can get good aftermarket parts (they don't
explode). However, he'll tell people that Whirlpool has made junky
machines in recent years, and he won't deal in them.

Having said that, when I went out looking at washers, the ones that I
saw that weren't made by Whirlpool were even worse: the flimsy plastic
impellers were designed to break. Well, that's why I want an oriental
washer. The damn thing that I've got is destroying my clothing. And
let's face it: all this clothing imported from Pakistan, China, Equador,
and Sri Lanka is not cheap!
