Still using 98se on two systems here at work(networked).
Will be buying a newer system.

1. Should we keep 98se on both systems or does it matter if one is running
98se and other xp. Once we get use to xp will be changing other to xp also.

2. Will all/most of programs running on 98se run on xp? Office2k, PaintShop
Pro 5.xx, Winfax pro, etc.etc.etc.

3. Running Frontpage2k- any problems with web site changes?

Thanks for any suggestions/comments,,,

I have 2 machines sharing internet connection and networked together
1 XP pro NTFS
1 win98 SE fat32
office2k
photoshop
many games and other stuff
no problems at all with xp
and no problems transferring files between machines
i much prefer xp over 98

1. Does not matter

2. YES (best if they are updated w/ respect to XP.)

3. No problems if updated.

The biggest issues with software compatiblity are in the following
areas:
- system utility programs such as Norton SystemWorks
- Antivirus software
- older software, especially 16 bit stuff written for Windows 3.x and
also DOS applications, but then only if those apps were programmed
using undocumented functions or other programming shortcuts such
bypassing operating system function calls to work directly with the
hardware.

Most 32 bit software written for Windows 95 and later is fully usable
under Windows XP, except for some items in the above categories.

Of the programs that you have listed the only one I would have
concerns about is WinFax Pro and that is only because communications
programs are one of the types where it is common to find them trying
to control the hardware (modem in this case) directly rather than
using the operating system. Check the manufacturer's (Symantec?) web
site for XP compatibility notes regarding your specific WinFax
version.

Good luck
