general question for any MVP

Scott

I'm going to start using Powerpoint to
project the words to hymns and songs at
our church.
Is there an easy way to jump around inside
a presentation without starting at the first
and going one slide at a time through the song?

For instance. Let's say a hymn is setup this way.
1st verse is slides 1-5
2nd verse is slides 6-10
3rd verse is slides 11-15.

Is there a way to show the first verse (slides 1-5)
and then jump to the 3rd verse (slides 11-15)?
If so can I put some kind of 'tab' or something that
allows me to use a single keystroke to find the slide that
is at the first of each verse? I envision being able to
push the 3 key (while singing the song) and the show
goes to a slide (the 11th in this case) that is at the first
of the 3rd verse.

Thanks in advance for any help.. you MVP's are super!

Thanks,

Scott

There is possibly some high-tech solution. However, you might be
better off with a low tech approach. If you write down on a piece of
paper the starting slide for each verse, then during a presentation
just enter the slide number followed by the ENTER key to take you to
that slide.

Scott,

If you want to repeat a particular verse....it's probably easier and safer
to just "duplicate those slides" after slide 15.
Then you can just go through the slides one by one...with no jumping around

You can "jump" to any slide by typing the slide number and hitting enter.

Good afternoon Scott,

I am not an MVP, but to answer your question, simply; enter the number of
the slide you want to jump to and then press the enter key. The difficult
part lays in knowing what slide # to jump to.

I, currently, use PowerPoint every Sunday for hymns and to supplement the
services. I have found it best to have a numbered hard-copy printout of the
slides. The order of service is printed in each of the three bulletins, but
often we repeat a verse or skip verses as the leader directs. Often this is
done with a 2 beat warning, so I have to be fast on my fingers (regardless
of what system I use).

There are however, multiple software packages designed for church services.
Some of them, I'm sure offer navigation similar to what you are describing.
The few I have tried are nice, but price is a big factor.

I would be more than happy to speak off-list, if you would like to compare
notes. Or, if this is a topic people feel should be on-list, that is fine,
too.

I coordinate this for our church--since we use volunteers
to run the computer, I always print out a set of handouts
(usually 6 per page)for their reference. This would give
you the number of the slide (so you could follow the
instructions others have given you to jump around). I
have found that it is better to copy/duplicate/etc. and
actually do the slides in the order we want--takes a
little longer on the front end, but is much easier during
the service.

Not a single keystroke, but you can click a hyperlink to go to any slide you
choose. If you have 10 hyms, just set up 10 small squares (or another shape)
on the bottom or left of a slide in the masters. Then set the action
properties of each square on click to a link for the relevant slide (square1
for slide1, square 2 for slide 6, square 3 for slide 11, ......). Since this
has been done within the slide master, it will show up on all slides and you
can get to the beginning of any hymn from any slide in the presentation
while it plays.
